About
My name is Abigail Noonan. I’m an ex-rower/graphic designer in Washington, DC. In my day job I design magazines. It’s an amazingly varied job, from being a team designer for Contingencies magazine to art directing John’s Hopkin’s Imagine Magazine: I’m never bored and often challenged. But being a designer never ends at the office. At home I design websites, logos and marketing materials for start-ups, non-profits and others.
But, I’m a recovering rower. That’s a lot of time that I used to spend in a boat that now needs to be filled by something equally compelling and inspiring. So I’ve been exploring the world of social media. How does this new medium of connection and information change the design world? Is a social network’s form defined by its content? Does content change according to its medium, its design, its form? What is the role of design in this world? How are we changing it and how is it changing us?
I make my way through social media platforms, create a home for myself in each one, and find what that home has to offer a designer…what I have to offer it.
It’s not that different from my experiences on a river. I put my oar into eddies of water, entwining ripples forming a powerful current, and, combining my efforts with those of my colleagues,I push, racing to get to a place that I can’t yet see.
It’s good stuff.
